A Day Lily Opens

My wife and I transplanted some day lilies to our yard during the spring. The day lilies are starting to bloom, but they began one at a time. We were glad to see the first day lily open, but the next day, it closed. Interesting enough, when that lily closed another lily opened.
When Job suffered the loss of cattle, servants, the lives of his sons and daughters and, for a while, his own health; his “day lily” closed. Job had a good life; Job lost his good life. However, Job never cursed God nor blamed God foolishly even when his own wife advised him to “curse God and die!” (Job 2:9,10).
Somehow, God works everything together for some good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Like Job, we must keep our faith in God and our integrity when the storms of life are unleashed on us. If you live long enough, you will experience your storms. Chances are some of the readers are doing everything they can to bear up against some life storm at this very moment.
We all know the end of the Lord that He is merciful and opens day lilies for us after our suffering–but in His time.
“My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful” (James 5:10,11; NKJV).
You have likely heard it said: “When God closes one window, He opens another window.” This is what I thought about when I saw our first day lily open then close. The next day, another day lily opened! Persevere and be patient. God is working.
