First Openly Gay Priest Versus The Bible

The United Methodist church, which has a membership of 12.7 million, announced recently they have appointed their first openly gay bishop. No group of persons, no matter how large, has the right to rewrite portions of Scripture with which they disagree. While many people may celebrate and claim they have broken through the ceiling, the Bible is clear about the spiritual condition of those practicing homosexual or lesbian acts.
Everyone knows that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of homosexual perversions (Genesis 19; Jude :7). Further, God told the Israelites under Old Testament Law to put to death any man or woman caught engaging in homosexual, lesbian or beastality sexual perversions. The sin is quite serious.
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13).
“And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:16).
The New Testament goes into detail about the depravity of men who would desire men over women and women desiring women over men. They put God out of their minds and work that which is “against nature” (see Romans 1:18-32). Paul the apostle writes that homosexuals and effeminate shall not inherit the kingdom of God (1st Corinthians 6:9-10).
In the beginning, God made the woman for the man (1st Corinthians 11:7-9). Adam was given Eve as a helper and companion. God’s plan stands regardless of what men may say; it stands regardless of even what millions of church members may say. When we take away from God’s word we call for God’s punishment (Revelation 22:18-19).
The United Methodist church might be proud of what they are allowing to happen, but they are proud apart from the blessings of God. The Corinthian church had to be corrected because they were “puffed up” or proud of fellowshipping a man who was having sexual relations with his father’s wife (1st Corinthians 5:1-2). However, they were told they ought rather to mourn over this gross sin and to put such a one out from among their number until he stops his sinning (see 1st Corinthians 5:3-13). If the United Methodist church followed the Bible in this matter they would put this gay priest out from among them and demand he repent and change his lifestyle to conform to that of Christ. However, they have decided their great number of members can somehow veto what God has spoken and they can do as they please. It’s a sad day when those who claim to represent Christ enact laws or rules that oppose what God has always said rather than enforce his Law. The devil is having his way with many religious people and others in our country today.
I’ll end this article with this thought:
Proverbs 11:21: “Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.”
Let us stand true to God’s word even when we seem to be outnumbered.
